PROJECT DETAILS
CONCEPT
Located on the stunning waterway at Wentworth Point, Le Velo invites cyclists and local patrons to take a rest break with a cup of coffee and a hearty meal. The space is intentionally designed to have a casual and easygoing atmosphere, combining contrasting textures of brass steel, almond-toned timber and rich carbon tile with the bold blue and orange accents of Buff Diss' mural artwork encompassing the walls and floors of the establishment.
Spatial Planning
The open-plan layout is lined with bench and round table seating surrounding the custom coffee bar and takeaway area, drawing patrons in. The gleaming blue steel-wrapped bar with black tiled countertops boldly juxtaposes the almond-toned timber flooring and vibrantly painted mural walls. The bar is enclosed by a steel cage with floating shelving, drawing the eye to the exposed industrial ceiling with heavy metal pendants dangling throughout the public space.
Appealing to the cyclist crowd, the back of shop is set up for bicycle storage and repair services. The back wall is lined with matte black frames storing bicycles safely side by side. The distinct yet connected zones allow customers to use the ground level for casual social dining and utilise the repair area at their convenience. The ground floor is fitted with a complete commercial and walk-in refrigerator, walled off from guests behind daringly painted walls adding a pop of colour to the darkened space.
Separate men's and female toilets surround a timber-framed staircase with black and brass steel steps and detailing leading to the upper level of the establishment. Timber flooring leads guests to a large white wall scattered floor to ceiling with work from local artists. The balcony level provides additional bench seating in a more intimate space, looking onto the texturally furnished bar below.
